In July our cherry tree was adorned with…Yup, you guessed it….CHERRIES! And tons of them! Bright red, a bit tart….but perfect for a cherry-inspired dessert! So, deciding to put our fruit to the test, and after spending time outside picking the cherries off of our tree, I made a Cherry Crisp.  It smelled soooo good while baking, and tasted even better! Chris wanted his with vanilla ice cream, but the girls and I just took ours plain! Yummy! 

Here is the recipe, if any of ya’ll want to use your own homegrown cherries or purchase some at the store.

Tart Cherry Crisp

4 cups pitted fresh tart cherries or 2 cans (14-1/2 oz.) pitted tart cherries, drained

2 T. sugar

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1 tsp. ground cinnamon

1/4 tsp. salt

1/4 cup cold butter, cubed

Directions:  Place cherries in an ungreased 9″ pie plate.  Sprinkle with sugar.  In a small bowl combine the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon and salt.  Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.  Sprinkle over the cherries.  Bake, uncovered, at 375 degrees for 30-40 minutes or until the top is bubble.  Yield: 6 servings

And, here it is….fresh from the oven.  Mmmmm!
